Composite Fillings to Treat Cavities
dBelieve it or not, 90% of adults in the United States either currently have or have had a cavity in their life. Instances of tooth decay, caused by everything from sugary diets to genetics, are a fact of life. Even those who regularly floss and brush can be susceptible to cavities.
If caught early, cavities are incredibly easy to treat and stop developing any further. At Comfort Care Dental, we generally recommend composite fillings to treat mild to moderate decay and cavities. These tooth colored fillings are strong, look just like your natural teeth, and will last many years. They are becoming far more popular than silver fillings or gold fillings due to the nature of their dental filling materials as more aesthetic and biocompatible (safe for your body).
Signs you might need a dental filling:
- Throbbing or sharp tooth pain
- Tooth sensitivity
- Dark spots on your teeth
- Food consistently gets stuck between teeth
- Chipped or damaged teeth
Our Dental Filling Process
For the most part, cavities will be diagnosed during your routine cleaning and exam. During these appointments, we’ll be on the lookout for any signs that decay might be taking hold.
We’ll then schedule an appointment for you to come in and have your cavities treated with a tooth filling. Here’s what to expect at these appointments:
1. Once checked in, we’ll numb the area around where the filling will be completed.
2. The decayed material will be removed from the tooth.
3. Composite material will be filled into the area where the decay has been removed. Once set, we’ll polish and smooth out the filling to ensure it aligns perfectly with your bite.
